Our Annual General Meeting is always short, about 20 minutes, and a formal agenda will be circulated in the next few weeks. The main items of business are to ratify the online voting that occurred prior to the meeting, to take a look back at the last year (2015 Annual report), discuss plans for the coming year, and to answer any questions you may have.
This year the Council Executive has combined the Annual general meeting with a Plenary session: Recognizing Educational Leadership in Education. To entice you to attend both we are offering registrants a free lunch! The caterer needs to know the number of lunches to prepare and we need participants to register.
In becoming a 3M Fellow each of us has been recognized for teaching excellence and education leadership. Over the past few years the Council’s work has focused on educational leadership to demonstrate to our sponsor, 3M, that the Fellows are a national group of educational leaders and an essential resource for affecting leadership changes in Higher Education in Canada. The creation of the Scholarship of Leadership in Educations (SoLE) grant, sponsored by 3M, is one of the Council’s recent initiatives in this area. We asked 3M Fellows to participate in a survey to try and understand more fully what leadership looks like through various lenses, including your experience as a 3M Fellow at your institution, and in your discipline – we received more than 135 responses!
Results from the survey will be combined with a meta-analysis of leadership statements from Student and Teaching Fellows nomination files to be presented at the start of our special plenary session to stimulate discussion on Educational Leadership and the Fellowship. The Executive Committee is urging your participation as we try to define the role and engagement of 3M Fellows and increase awareness of the fellows in this area of Post-secondary education.
